Lily Harrison Photography bio picture
  • Hello!!

    I'm El, and welcome to my Blog! I'm a natural light portrait photographer who loves taking photos of children, babies and families, big and small. I have 3 beautiful children of my own: A boy whose a bit girly, a girl whose a bit of a tom boy and a big, fat, pink baby girl! They make me laugh 'till I cry, run, jump, bang my head against the wall, and fill with pride fit to burst! I still can't believe that I created them. Me!!! How clever am I!!?

    My photographs are fun, relaxed, full of laughter, love, light and personality. This Blog is a place where I share a bit about myself and my world. Where you can see my most recent work, and maybe get to know me a little. Have a look around, leave a comment and enjoy my photos.

    If you have any questions at all, or would like to know anything else, send me an email! I'd love to hear from you!

2011 Australian Professional Photography Awards {Brisbane Award Winning Photographer}

This past weekend the APPAs (Australian Professional Photography Awards) were held in Sydney. Being reasonably new to the industry, its safe to say I was extremely nervous about entering. In fact, I had actually decided firmly NOT to enter, to wait a year or two until I was more confident in my own work, and had a bit more of an idea of the process. It wasn’t until the 11th hour that I thought Why not? What have I to lose? It was then a mad panicked dash to prepare a couple of images and have them express posted down. No sooner had I handed them over the post office desk and walked out to my car I thought What was I thinking!!!!!?? Who am I kidding!!!!??And for the next few weeks felt nauseous every time I thought of my work being publicly scrutinised by some of the best photographers in the country and overseas, many of them my inspirations!

I tried not to think about it over the weekend. While the rest of the industry were waiting with baited breath for their results, I busied myself with other things. Imagine my surprise when I was awarded a Silver for one of my photos!! In my very first time entering! I couldn’t be happier! I also scored considerably better with my other 2 than I had ever dreamed!

For those of you who have been asking, here is the image.

Kun & Eamon

I was lucky enough a couple of weekends ago to 2nd shoot for the fabulous Christine from Pobke Photography. The weather was horrendous, to say the least, we got horribly lost, drove through a humungous puddle at top speed and nearly drowned, and may or may not have injured an owl….. Good times.

We arrived at Deux Belettes, the breathtaking wedding venue in the Byron Hinterland, to be met by the very calm and relaxed Kun & Eamon. Such a lovely, sweet couple, who had this amazing, intimate day planned with their generous and beautiful friends and family. Thank you both for making Christine and I feel so welcome. It really was a spectacular day. A wonderful beginning to what will be, I’m sure, a long and happy life together.

Thank you also to Christine, for having me along as your wing woman. I had such a laugh, and it is inspiring to watch you work, and to shoot along side you.

Here are a few of my fav pics from the day. For the full post, go here, and while you’re at it, have a good sticky beak at Christines Blog, if you don’t already know her work.

Anzac Day 2011

Here in Australia today, its ANZAC Day. Its one of my favourite days for so many reasons. Remembering what our ancestors sacrificed so that we can enjoy the lives that we are so lucky to live makes me extremely proud. Australia is THE most beautiful place in the world, of that I am certain, and I am responsible for relaying the important message of the ANZACs to my own children.

Ben and I were lucky enough to visit Villers-Bretonneux a couple of years ago, with Harry, when he was a toddler and Lily was just 10 months old, as part of a 6 week adventure through Europe and The UK. It is an amazing and breathtaking place, and I find it really hard to explain with words the effect that it had on me. I see pictures of Gallipoli on the news tonight, of patriotic Aussies making this important pilgrimage, and can’t help but feel it has become somewhat commercialised. I myself, cannot wait to return to Villers-Bretonneux to pay my respects on ANZAC Day, a picturesque resting place in the French countryside. A beautiful and peaceful place in the middle of nowhere, once the scene of horror and death. A place that Our Brave Aussies played such an important role in WWI. It makes me proud and thankful for our history.

I thought I would share some photos of our visit to this magical place. Photos taken before I had decided to take photography from a passionate hobby to a business.
